Dunolly put together their best performance of the season to defeat Campbells Creek by 30 goals, ensuring that they’ll almost certainly avoid the wooden spoon.

The Eagles dominated from the outset at Deledio Reserve, and were guided by a high-scoring opening stanza to ensure they would take charge throughout the day.

That saw the Eagles score 22 goals to eight in the first term — their first quarter output beating their tally against Natte Bealiba last week, with Zoe Aldridge and Kate Ashman scoring 11 goals apiece. For Campbells Creek, Lillie Wrigley scored six times and Molly Kennedy twice.

Dunolly’s midcourt continued to run with ease as they generated chance after chance in the second term, scoring 20 goals to seven to take a commanding 42-15 lead at the main break. Aldridge scored 13 goals and Ashman seven for Dunolly, while Wrigley scored six times and Kennedy once for Campbells Creek.

To Campbells Creek’s credit, they did not give in at all, and were rewarded by taking the third quarter in scoring 12 goals to 11 to reduce the margin slightly, but it was still 53-27 Dunolly’s way at the final change. Wrigley scored nine goals and Kennedy three for the Magpies, while for Dunolly, Ashman scored seven times and Aldridge four.

Dunolly were able to get back on track to win the last quarter, scoring 15 goals to 11 to ensure it would be a 30-goal victory. Aldridge scored 13 goals for the term to finish with 41 for the day, while Ashman added two to finish with 27. For Campbells Creek, Wrigley scored 10 goals to finish with 31 for the day, while Kennedy scored once.

The Eagles now have the bye, and could move up to 12th depending on Harcourt’s result against Trentham, while Campbells Creek will have a difficult assignment against the ladder-leading Avoca.
