The Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League held their junior presentation night on Wednesday, rewarding the best of the best in the junior competitions.
In the 11 and under netball competition, Maldon’s Elsa Curran held on to win by a single vote from Navarre’s Sunday Kongor, despite the Dons having the bye in the final round.
Similarly, the last vote card decided the count in the under 11.5 football competition, with Trentham’s Will Hopper taking three votes, scoring 40 votes to pinch a two-vote victory from Navarre’s Morgan Greenaway and Carisbrook’s Billy Rumpff.
A dramatic finish to the 13 and under netball competition saw Talbot’s Louella Roche take two votes in the last game to tie with Harcourt’s Maycee Rinaldi, with both players polling 27 votes. Natte Bealiba’s Ruby Martin was runner-up, polling 26 votes.
In the 15 and under netball competition, Harcourt’s Tegan McKay did enough to hold on despite not polling in the last round, scoring 27 votes to win by one from Royal Park’s Lacey Broad.
The under 14.5 footballers were next to be presented, with Carisbrook’s Harrison Malone presented with the leading goalkicker award for scoring 66 goals in 2023.
Malone’s teammate, Brian Shafik-Eid, would win the count, scoring 27 votes to win from Avoca’s Matt Wardlaw.
In the 17 and under netball, Royal Park’s Paige Walkley was rewarded with the best and fairest trophy by polling 35 votes, winning from Natte Bealiba’s Ellie Martin, who scored 31 votes.
The under 17.5 footballers were the last to be presented for the night. Maldon’s Noah Thompson was presented with the leading goalkicker trophy after a year which saw him score 62 goals.
Thompson was in the thick of it when it came to the vote tallies, finishing runner-up on 29 votes to Carisbrook’s Brandon Carter, who finished with 34 votes.
