While Australia’s 2-0 lead in the Ashes is captivating audiences across the country, another Aussie — Beaufort cricketer Lachlan Oddie — is also excelling in the UK, in his stint with the Frinton-on-Sea Cricket Club.
In the 2023 season, Oddie currently sits second in the club-wide bowling statistics, having taken 27 wickets at an average of 14.26 for the season for the club’s second XI.
Not only that, Oddie also lies in 15th in the batting at the club, having scored 192 runs at an average of 27.43.
Arguably Oddie’s best performance of the season so far came in the club’s Sunday Challenge game against Ardleigh, where he helped orchestrate a collapse by taking 4/17 to leave Ardleigh all out for 161 after being 3/115, before embarking on an incredible 150-run partnership with William Farrance, in which he scored an unbeaten 70, to guide Frinton-on-Sea to victory after being 4/12 at one stage.
Another standout performance for Oddie was his 7/42 that he took two weeks ago against Nacton. While he was clearly their most economical bowler, it was not enough for Frinton-on-Sea to win, as they lost by 90 runs.
Oddie is coming off a Maryborough District Cricket Associa-tion season where he took nine wickets and scored 326 runs.
