Beaufort are set to face an intriguing weekend of cricket, scheduled to play two games in two days, starting with their clash against Laanecoorie Dunolly on Saturday.

The Crows had their second game of the season two weeks ago against Clunes, and proved to be much more successful than their first outing against Maryborough. However, work still needs to be done to secure their first victory of the season.

A final total of 9/134 from their 40 overs against Clunes looked to be a competitive score, with Lachlan Oddie scoring 36 and Blake Jantzen continuing his solid start to the year with 26.

It looked like the Crows were set for their first win of the season when they had Clunes 6/60 in response, but they were unable to stop the Clunes tail from wagging to ensure their victory.

Andrew Grant was by far their best performer with the ball, taking 4/18 for the Crows.

The challenge of taking on the defending champions will prove to be much more daunting after seeing their first hitout with new star recruit Samit Gohil.

Gohil top-scored with 40 in their victory over Colts Phelans, while he also contributed to a run-out while fielding.

However, Laane is much more than just a one-man show, as recent years have shown, with Tom Hannett and Benjamin Gunn putting in solid knocks against Colts, while Alex Sutton was superb with the ball, taking 4/17.

Beaufort will be looking for an improved effort compared to their last encounter, which was the one-day semi-final earlier this year.

On that occasion, the Crows were unable to push the run rate, with Zac MacLeod the only batsman to score above 20 runs with his knock of 30. They would eventually finish on 87 all out, with a consistent team effort with the ball from Laane seeing five players take wickets, led by Zach Graham with 3/32.

In response, a swashbuckling 42 not out from Liam Mottram helped guide Laane to their target in a quick fire 15.5 overs for the loss of just two wickets.
