After a frustrating Twenty20 competition which saw both of these teams play just one game, Beaufort and Clunes will be hoping the bad weather stays away on Saturday for the start of one-day cricket.
For Beaufort, this game would mark their first in three weeks, which would no doubt have been very frustrating for the Crows, having played on October 22 against Maryborough.
On that occasion, some tight bowling by the Owls meant runs were hard to come by for Beaufort, with Blake Jantzen and Nick Stabbins having to put in work, making 31 and 16 respectively to ensure that the Crows could reach 4/74 off their 20 overs.
In response, Beaufort were unable to get early wickets to put the necessary pressure on the Owls, with Maryborough reaching their target with more than five overs to spare.
Clunes, in the meantime, were able to get on the pitch last week, but it was a difficult day against defending champions Laanecoorie Dunolly as they took a comfortable 30-run victory.
They weren’t quite able to stop Laane from building consistent partnerships, leaving them unable to bridge the gap.
Mark Allen could hold his head high, scoring 36 runs, but Laane’s bowling overpowered Clunes’ batting lineup, restricting them to 6/85 in response from their 20 overs.
The last meeting between both teams proved to be a thriller in round 11 last season, with Clunes taking a one-wicket victory in a low-scoring encounter.
Beaufort were restricted to 92 all out from 32 overs, with tail-ended Bryce Nicholson top scoring with 17 runs, while Stabbins was the only other batsman to make 10 runs or more. Brendan Ingram was the chief destroyer for Clunes, taking 3/11 off his four overs, with a consistent bowling lineup saw Riley Coppick, Mark Jenkin and Shehzad Muhammad take two wickets each.
In response, Clunes got off to a great start when Sam Williams and Allen added 33 for the first wicket, but Beaufort, with Lachlan Oddie and Nicholson inspired, were able to take nine wickets for just 41 runs, with Oddie taking 5/17 off eight overs, and Nicholson taking 3/16.
But a ninth wicket partnership of 22 runs between Muhammad and Todd Featherston meant that Clunes were able to pull the game out of the fire and record a famous win. The game this weekend will start at the earlier time of 12 pm at Bull Millgate Oval.
