Daisy Hill’s Beau Treloar had the opportunity of a lifetime when he accepted his first ride at Echuca on Tuesday, eventually finishing seventh out of 10 onboard Tom The Star in the final race of the day.

For Treloar, it’s a continued step in his journey after he was accepted into the Racing Victoria Apprentice Jockey Training Program in March, and one where he is now starting to reap the rewards.

Treloar was thrilled to get the opportunity to ride Tom The Star, and earned plaudits from his bosses at Cumani Racing, as well as his apprentice coach as a result.

“It was great. They had quite a crowd at Echuca, so it was a good day,” he said.

“My boss was happy and my apprentice coach was happy as well. I felt I did everything well, but the horse just couldn’t hold on late. But everything ran smoothly and I kept as calm as I could. I wasn’t too nervous, and it was a good experience.”

Treloar says his last 12 months have been ‘full-on’, but he is starting to make his mark on the track.

“I’ve been progressing through official trials and working closely with apprentice coaches, nutritionists and physios we have access to. It’s been a pretty full-on 12 months, and it’s great to get a start on raceday,” he said.

“I’ll look to chip away at my claim, and book more race rides, while gaining more experience and more of an understanding on raceday.

“It’s great to get that experience under my belt, and I feel like it is onwards and upwards from here.”

The future goal is simple for Treloar.

“I’m hoping to start get some winners on the board and get my name out there a bit,” he said.
