Battle for top four heats up in midweek’s 2024 finale
Highland Gold made the biggest move of the final round of the midweek pennant for 2024, ending the year in the top four.
They were able to take a 59-51 win over Maryborough Golf to move into fourth place at Golf’s expense, now sitting three points clear.
Paul Gothard took a 24-11 win over Liz Bucknall, while Roy Crawley scored a 21-15 win over Graeme Orr. That allowed Highland Gold to hold out Golf, despite Kort Gay’s 25-14 win over Lowen Clarke.
It was the top three who maintained the rage as the midweek pennant wrapped up for 2024.
Highland Tartan will maintain top spot on the ladder tanks to a 64-43 win over Avoca.
An eight-shot end was crucial to Garry Coburn taking a 23-16 win over Ann Loosmore, while Michael Fryar took a 25-10 win over Ian Proctor. Avoca were able to take a rink with Daniel Giddings’ 17-16 win over Greg Shay.
Dunolly Blue are right in the frame to take over if Highland Tartan slip up, taking a 92-50 win over Carisbrook to stay within 13 points of Tartan in second.
Dunolly Blue took the sweep, with Chris Williams scoring a 35-19 win over Roy Pickering, while Heather Freemantle scored a 34-12 win over Phillip Burt. Tony Galofaro finished things off with a 23-19 win over Laurence Cassidy.
Talbot have now established a break in third position courtesy of a clean sweep over Dunolly Gold with their 69-43 win.
Chris Crossley scored a 25-13 win over Fabio Delconte, while Ray Prentice scored a 19-15 win over Jim Haigh. Barb Crossley finished things off with a 25-15 win over Wayne Stephens as Talbot moved a full game clear of Highland Gold in third.
The first round of the midweek pennant in 2025 will kick off Charity Round on January 14, with the game of the round set to be second-placed Dunolly Blue against fourth-placed Highland Gold.
Another key game will see ladder-leader Highland Tartan against fifth-placed Maryborough Golf, who will be seeking a return to the top four.
Third-placed Talbot will look to keep the pressure on the top two when they play Carisbrook, while Avoca will look to keep their finals hopes alive when they play against Dunolly Gold, who will be seeking their first win of the season.
