With bargains aplenty, Talbot’s community-wide garage sale is set to return this weekend — and up for grabs are more than just great deals for visitors, as the event also marks a decade since its inception.
Close to 20 residents will open their doors tomorrow to people from across the region, as part of the Talbot Town Garage Sale, organised by the Talbot Today and Tomorrow (TTT) committee, following on from the success of their last sale, two years ago.
Maps pointing to the locations of all registered garage sales in the area will be available to purchase on the day, at the Talbot Town Hall.
First held in 2014, the initiative ran annually until 2019, after which it was temporally paused due to the pandemic.
Having bounced back as a biennial event since then, TTT president Greg McNeilly said the continuity of the sale also reflected its popularity.
“We started it as a way of promoting the town and neighbouring areas,” he said.
“In 2022, we sold over 100 maps and we’re looking to get similar numbers this year too — every couple or family might buy one map so that means we’re actually getting more than 200 visitors.
“It’s such a great day and it’s really loved by everyone.”
Spread across a four kilometre radius, people will be able to conveniently visit multiple stalls and according to Mr McNeilly, it’s worth the trip.
“So many visitors come from as far as Ballarat, Bendigo and Melton and they do that because of how enjoyable it is,” he said.
“I think everyone should come because they get to pick up a bargain, have a look at a beautiful historic town and meet new people at the same time.
“We’re also holding this sale in conjunction with the Daisy Hill yard sale which is also really close — people can come to Talbot, then go to Daisy Hill and then head into Maryborough for lunch.”
Organised by the Daisy Hill Community Centre, the yard sale will be hosted at the centre, featuring a wide range of goods.
The garage sale will run this Saturday, February 10 from 8 am to 2 pm. Maps of participating locations can be bought at 15 Ballarat Street for a $2 donation.
The Daisy Hill Community Centre is located at 11 Dehnerts Road and the yard sale will also run from 8 am to 2 pm.
