Detectives from the Homicide Squad have charged a man after the body of Clunes woman Hannah McGuire was found in Scarsdale last Friday.
A 21-year-old Sebastopol man arrested Sunday afternoon has been charged with one count of murder.
The charge follows an incident where emergency services were called to reports of a vehicle on fire in bushland near State Forest Road, Scarsdale, just before 10 am last Friday.
The remains of 23-year-old Hannah McGuire were located inside the vehicle.
Police believe the parties involved were known to each other.
The man appeared before the Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday morning, where the matter was adjourned until September 19 for a committal hearing.
The accused did not apply for bail and will remain in custody until that date.
