AVOCA (88) def HARCOURT (18)

It was a devastating reminder from the Bulldogs that they remain very much in the hunt, producing a destructive 70-goal win over Harcourt in a result which clouds the Lions’ finals chances.

The Lions now face the prospect of being eliminated from the finals race in the final round, having worked hard to get back into contention, and now must beat Natte Bealiba to secure their spot — otherwise, with ninth-placed Navarre favoured to beat Newstead, the Hoppers will take their spot.

It was well and truly Avoca’s day on Saturday, as they basked in the biggest win of the season so far.

They scored 21 goals to four in the opening quarter to set the tone, and added to that with another 20 goal to five term in the second quarter to open up a 32-goal lead at the main break.

The Bulldogs’ best came in the third term, where they scored 26 goals in a dominant display, while restricting the Lions to just three goals, to extend their lead to 55 goals at the final change.

Avoca finished off an unbelievable performance by scoring 21 goals to six in the final term.

Maddy Egan dominated proceedings, scoring 62 goals, while Gina Beavis added 26 for the winners.

Tayla Gale led the way for the Lions, scoring 13 goals.
