CAMPBELLS CREEK 0.3 (3) def by AVOCA 24.21 (165)
Avoca handed Campbells Creek a good old-fashioned beating on Saturday, winning by 162 points, enjoying 45 shots on goal to three.
From the opening bounce Avoca controlled play, winning the ball out of the middle through the ruckwork of Scott Cawthan, who rucked all day in an inspiring display all around the ground.
Sean Moyle was everywhere for the Bulldogs, setting up many forward moves with assistance from Daniel Howell and Bryce Howell.
In the first entry forward for Avoca, Zack Lubeek took a strong contested mark and kicked truly to get the ball rolling for the Bulldogs.
Lubeek and Jason Hunt kicked two goals apiece in this quarter, while Campbells Creek could manage just one point.
The second term was well and truly one way traffic, as Tyson Cope was getting plenty of ball for the Bulldogs, as was Byron Wynd, and they had 12 shots on goal for a 50 percent success rate. Lubeek was marking strongly, but was a bit astray with his goalkicking, with three behinds in succession in the second term.
Highlight of the term saw youngster Campbell Blair surprise his opponents and caught them napping, kicking a long goal on the run to give the Bulldogs a 69-point lead at half time.
Goalkicking practice may have been called for by the Bulldogs after seven missed opportunities from relatively easy shots on goal in the third term, but the players redeemed themselves in the final quarter as it rained goals, including four goals from the fast-running Wynd, as the Bulldogs won in comfortable fashion.
Creek’s John Bartels had an opportunity to kick their only goal in the dying stages of the game, but his set shot hit the post.
Better players for the Bulldogs were Moyle, Shaun Cudmore, Eric Wilkinson, Wynd as were Hunt and Lubeek, who both kicked seven goals apiece. Creek did not name any best players.
