Avoca’s unbeaten home-and-away season is complete, courtesy of a 23-goal victory against Dunolly on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs now look ahead to their first final against Harcourt next Saturday afternoon at Princes Park, while for the Eagles, it’s curtains on their 2022 season.

At times, the game certainly did not reflect the 12-game disparity on the ladder between the two teams, as the Eagles threw everything at the Bulldogs throughout the afternoon. The first quarter was a particular example of that, with the Eagles outscored by three goals, trailing 13-16 at the first break.

However, the Bulldogs started to click into gear in the second quarter, and again scored 16 goals, but this time, they were able to hold Dunolly to just seven goals for the quarter, which ensured they would lead 32-20 at half time.

Avoca had a strong third quarter in which they were able to basically seal the game, scoring 19 goals to 11, which saw them take a 51-31 lead into the final change.

Dunolly had their strongest quarter in the last quarter, and indeed ran out the game very well, scoring 15 goals, but it was not enough to make inroads on the margin, with Avoca scoring 18 goals to ensure they’d win 69-46.

Best for Avoca in their win was Maddison Egan, Stacey Blair and Lisa Walkley. Egan’s 45 goals proving to be a massive point of difference between the two teams.

Dunolly were well-served by Melanie Schodde, Kate Ashman and Leah Davis, with Davis leading the way in the Eagles’ goal circle with 28 goals.
