Since Avoca’s opening-round win, they have been toppled by Talbot and Lexton, and they were very pleased to be back on the winners’ list.

Campbells Creek is yet to post a win so far, losing to Harcourt, Maldon, and now the Bulldogs.

Scores were level at quarter time, with Alex Riches scoring the first goal of the game for Avoca at the four-minute mark.

Hadley Bassett was given a gift from the umpire when his 50-metre penalty took him to the goal line to answer for Creek.

Zack Lubeek was the only goal scorer in the scrappy second term. Both sides had trouble handling the ball cleanly, resulting in numerous turnovers.

Jordan Thomas goaled for Avoca just one minute into the third term, but Joel Wooton goaled, and due to an incident, was given another shot on goal, and Nick O’Brien goaled for Creek to hit the front by four points.

Mitch Whelan then kicked his first of four goals in succession from the next centre bounce, and he goaled again at the 22-minute mark for the Bulldogs to lead by eight points at the final change.

Two more goals to Whelan to open the final quarter had the Bulldogs on top. Lubeek kicked the final two goals of the game for Avoca to post their second win of the season, and the 12th time Avoca has defeated Creek in 23 games.

Riches led the way for Avoca, along with Alex Bowd, others to play well were Lubeek, Scott Cawthan and Whelan, kicking four goals in succession when the Bulldogs needed someone to step up.

Dylan Stevens again led the way for Campbells Creek, as did Bassett, Kyle Gellatly, Lachlan Hyland, Billie Dunne and Mitch Stevens.
