The unbeaten dream is still alive for Avoca, with the Bulldogs able to keep Carisbrook at arms’ length all after-noon for a six-goal win.

In what proved to be a very tight affair, the margin was never more than six goals at any change.

It was the Redbacks who got off to a slightly better start, scoring 11 goals to the Bulldogs’ 10 to take a one-goal lead into the first change.

However, the power of the Bulldogs showed as they threw their weight around in the second quarter, scoring 16 goals to nine to open up a six-goal lead at the main break.

In an entertaining third quarter, 35 goals were scored, with Carisbrook edging Avoca by three goals to reduce the margin at three-quarter-time, trailing 39-42.

The class of the Bulldogs was able to get them home however, scoring 12 goals to nine to eventually run out 54-48 winners.

Caitlin Drummond, Gina Beavis (21 goals) and Stacey Blair were adjudged Avoca’s best players, while the ever-reliable Maddison Egan scored 33 goals.

For Carisbrook, Amelia Jarvis, Elise Mottram and Georgia Bell were their best performers, with Bell scoring 25 goals and Jarvis 23.
