A strong first-half performance was just the tonic for Avoca bouncing back, eventually taking an 18-goal victory against Maldon.
The result sees the Bulldogs move back into third position at the expense of Trentham, while Maldon are still seeking their first victory of the season, and therefore remain rooted to the bottom of the ladder.
A strong start from the Bulldogs saw them score 15 goals to six to open proceedings to open up a nine-goal lead at the first change, before scoring a further 16 goals to seven in the second quarter to take an 18-goal lead into the main break.
To their credit, Maldon fought hard in the second half and kept pace with the Bulldogs throughout.
In fact, the third quarter was won by the Dons, as they scored 12 goals to 11 to reduce the margin slightly to 17 goals at the final break.
But Avoca reigned supreme, and reversed the third quarter to get the margin back out to 18 goals.
Maddy Egan and the returning Gina Beavis worked well together again, with Egan scoring 31 goals and Beavis providing a further 23.
Meantime, for Maldon, Katie Tong scored 23 goals, while Zoe Backway scored a further 13.
