Avoca finally broke through for their first victory of the season when they fought back from an eight-point deficit at half time to run out inspiring victors by 44 points over Royal Park.

The Bulldogs went into the match in a positive frame of mind after their previous matches against Talbot and Navarre were competitive contests.

They may have started to have some doubts when Royal Park led by 12 points at quarter time, but the further the game went on, the Bulldogs gained control of the contest, pegging back the lead, and they hit the front midway through the third term to lead by 15 points at three quarter time.

The final quarter was where the Bulldogs dominated play. Kicking into the breeze the home team had nine shots on goal, while keeping the Tigers scoreless, and the home crowd were up and about as the Bulldogs sang the club song for the first time of the season.

Coach Zack Lubeek led the way for the Bulldogs, kicking five goals in the comfortable victory, and others to play well were Scott Cawthan, Cody Lubeek, Byron Wynd, Darcy Carey, and Tyson Cope.

Royal Park’s better players were Matt Walker, Isaac Duncan, Luke Relouw, Ron Smith, Rhys Wagstaff, and Rhys Egan, with Jacob Rollason kicking four goals.
