If you know a resident who has worked tirelessly to help the community, now is the time to show your appreciation by nominating them for the local 2024 Australia Day Awards.

From now until the end of this month, people can nominate a person or initiative of their choosing across three award categories: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event or Project of the Year.

After all nominations are received, the Australia Day Awards Selection Panel will judge them based on a set criteria depending on the relevant category.

For Citizen of the Year, this includes factors such as whether the nominee has made an outstanding contribution to the community in a voluntary capacity, has been a role model to the community and has demonstrated a commitment to enhancing the welfare and wellbeing of the community.

The other two awards will be required to meet similar conditions — with the addition of achievements in community activities, academic, sporting, personal, cultural, and/or social responsibility taken into consideration for the Young Citizen of the Year title.

Selection for the Community Project or Event of the Year, awarded to a local group of four or more people, will depend on the impact, purpose and ongoing benefit of the initiative.

The nominations — which close at midnight on Sunday, October 29 — can be submitted online at www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au or through the official form which can be downloaded from the website. Hard copies of the form are also available on demand by calling 5461-0610.

Recipients of the awards will be announced on January 26, 2024 with the Central Goldfields Shire Council set to administer the honours on behalf of the National Australia Day Council.
