Athletics stars headed to state championships
Maryborough Little Athletics' stars have earned places at next month’s State Championships following the Western Country Region Cross Country event.
Three local cross country athletes have earned places at next month’s State Championships after producing impressive performances at the Western Country Region Cross Country event held at Leura Oval in Camperdown over the weekend.
Despite challenging conditions, the Maryborough Little Athletics’ Jay, Xavier and Max all finished strongly against quality competition to qualify for state finals.
Jay recorded an outstanding fourth-place finish in the girls 13–17 years 3 kilometre event, crossing the line in 14 minutes. Xavier finished seventh in the boys 11–12 years 2 km race with a time of 8:01, while Max claimed fifth place in the boys 9–10 years 1.5 km event in a time of 5:28.
Earlier in the week, Jay and Max also represented their schools at the SSV State Cross Country Championships. Jay achieved an impressive 17th-place finish in her race, while Max placed 67th against a strong field of competitors.
Their recent performances highlight a successful week of competition, with all three athletes now looking ahead to the State Championships next month.
