The decision to run operations solely under the one roof has been in Asteria’s business plans for serveral years.

According to their 2024 annual report, all programs officially moved away from Christian Street in September last year with a 12 month transition period to complete the process.

The successful move was celebrated last Friday at Nelson Street with a smoking ceremony and a barbecue lunch, followed by the participant Christmas break-up.

The official celebrations caused mixed feelings for everyone at the disability support and commercial services provider, including CEO Annie Constable.

“The emotion was varied, a tinge of sadness and one of excitement, for what was, and for what is to come,” she said.

“While the building holds memories, Asteria is focused on the welfare of our participants.”

With Asteria still owning the building located on 12 Christian Street, Ms Constable said business will run as usual as the site will evolve in providing support for participants.

“The site will be redeveloped, with a state of the art, fit-for-purpose venue for participant use, and will include, an art space, wellbeing room, and a music room,” she said.

“The move was made primarily to connect participants and staff on the one site.

“We are of the belief that having staff on the same site will strengthen connections with staff, participants and the community.”

The redevelopment is one of many building projects “on the go” according to the recent annual report alongside construction on both Christian and Nelson Street.

Asteria is currently working on refurbishing ‘The Goldfields’ restaurant on 91 Derby Road and have obtained a certificate of occupancy for two units and making over existing dwellings on 160 Railway Street.
