The chance to play All-Abilities golf has been given to members of Asteria Services, thanks to the Victorian Government’s Together More Active funding program.
A four week block, delivered by Kelly Sports and Golf Australia’s Get into Golf platform, has allowed participants from Asteria to spend their Friday mornings at the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre (MSLC), with Sports Focus and the Central Goldfields Shire Council also involved in the program.
The goal of the program is to break down barriers to golf, which delivers social and team building exercises and allows anyone to experience golf in a different format, including indoor settings, which is why the program has been delivered at the MSLC.
Jasmine Noske, from Sports Focus, discussed the impact of the program on participants.
“Sports Focus, Golf Australia and Asteria all working together means that we can tailor participation activities to suit the needs of our audience,” she said.
“We have consulted with Asteria about what activities would work best for their clients, and have worked with Golf Australia to obtain modified equipment to deliver golf in a way that is more inclusive of all abilities.
“Without the development of these partnerships, we wouldn’t have been able to deliver such a tailored experience for the participants.”
