Artworks through upcycling
Local artists and community members are encouraged to create an artwork using something recycled and respond to the theme of ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ for the exhibition held at the gallery at the end of November.
It’s time to pause before putting something in the recycling bin or transfer station, and think about how it could be transformed into a sculpture or used in an artwork.
The Community Arts – Upcycled Exhibition shines the light on the creativity of the local community and the residents of Avoca who are all invited to participate.
Central Goldfields Shire mayor Grace La Vella said the annual Community Arts Exhibition is a crowd favourite.
“Every year is different in this popular competition, and the creativity of our local area always amazes me,” she said.
“We have quite a few artists in our region who embrace the repurposing of materials to make art, and now it’s everyone’s turn to give it a try – and have a lot of fun in the process. Plus it’s bound to change ways of thinking about how we can all reduce, reuse and recycle.
“I’m really excited to see what our budding creatives come up with for the exhibition in November.”
Coordinator of council’s healthy environments Louise Turner said exhibitions like these are a creative option for managing rubbish.
“How can we maximize its resource value and reduce its impact on the environment? This exhibition provides a lens for seeing beyond the bin, finding creativity and a second life in materials formerly destined to be landfill stuffers,” she said.
To stimulate creative inspiration there’s a special opportunity to choose items at discounted prices from the Resale Shop at 125 William Road, Carisbrook between 10 am to 1 pm on Wednesday, July 2.
Entries for the Community Art Exhibition are due by November 9, 2025 and the exhibition will open on November 27. Once again there will be prizes for young people, adults and a People’s Choice Award.
Locals can collect an entry form for the 2025 Community Arts − Upcycled Exhibition from Central Goldfields Art Gallery, at the Central Goldfields Shire Customer Service Centre, or download a copy from the gallery website www.centralgoldfieldsartgallery.com.au
