Locals will pause and reflect this Friday at Anzac Day services throughout the Central Goldfields, with Maryborough RSL sub branch members Danny McIver, Garry Mayall and Roy ‘Shady’ Lane anticipating a large crowd in Maryborough again this year.

Following large crowds drawn to last year’s service, Maryborough RSL sub branch secretary Danny McIver said many locals are expected to attend again this year.

“We had a really good turn out last year, probably three or four hundred people there. Because this year it will be on a Friday, we hope that will help a large attedance, ” he said.

The Dawn Service will commence at 6 am on Friday, April 25, followed by the High Street march commencing at 10.30 am, before the mid-morning ceremony at McLand-ress Square, outside the Maryborough Post office, at 11 am.

The Anzac Day morning breakfast will also be returning to the Mary-borough RSL Hall this year following the completion of recent renovations.

The march will be led by current military personnel and veterans followed by RSL members, ex-service members, their families and the brass band.

There will be a number of guest speakers attending the ceremony, including students from Marborough Education Centre and Highview College, mayor Grace La Vella, and Member for Ripon Martha Haylett.

Maryborough’s Campbell Latch will return from the RAAF to lead the march and attend as a guest speaker.

In the lead up to Anzac Day this year, Mr McIver welcomes involvement from more local young people.

“We’ve been able to pick up a couple of young people, that has been our aim for some time,” he said.

Badges are currently available for purchase outside Woolworths on Tuaggra Street and NewsXpress on High Street.

Available until April 24, the money raised will go towards veterans and their families.

Mr McIver said the branch appreciates the generosity the community shows at this time of year.

“As far as buying a badge goes, some people also walk past just to make a donation. That is one thing we notice, the people of Mary-borough are very generous,” he said.
