Annual charity golf day postponed

Locals will be teeing off later than expected for the hospital’s charity golf day originally planned for April 23.
The annual event, held in partnership with True Foods and Maryborough Golf Club, is a highlight on the hospital’s calendar.
Golfers, lawn bowlers, and the community come together for a day of fun helping raise money for local health services.
Since 2014, the event has raised more than $200,000 directly benefiting programs including patient transport, breast cancer screening, aged care improvements and nurse and student training.
MDHS interim acting CEO Marc Sherwell said it was a “difficult decision” to postpone the event.
“The event depends on the generosity of our community and we greatly appreciate their support. We understand the current pressures and challenges being experienced by sponsors, suppliers, staff, and attendees, and believe now is not the right time to ask more of those who already contribute so much,” he said.
Last year the event raised over $20,000 into advancing paediatric services and scholarship opportunities.
MDHS hoped to raise $30,000 at this year’s annual fundraiser.
Maryborough Golf Club general manager Bonaventure Tai said, in an email to members, the delay does not reflect a lack of appreciation.
“Events like the MDHS Annual Fundraiser are only successful because of the generosity, goodwill and empathy of the extended community,” he said.
“While we are truly grateful for the close association we share with so many of you, and while this event means a great deal to us all, we believe that this decision is the most responsible and respectful course of action. This decision does not diminish the strength of our relationships or the community spirit that underpins them.
“Whilst the MDHS Annual Fundraiser isn’t on the immediate horizon for 2026, we look forward to future opportunities to come together, reconnect and continue supporting MDHS and our wider community in meaningful ways.”
While no new date has been set, Mr Sherwell said MDHS would keep the community informed.
“We sincerely appreciate the understanding and ongoing support of the community and will share further updates when these are at hand,” he said.
