Local emergency services were first called to the scene at around 4 pm to reports of a blaze along Alma-Moonlight Flat Road, approximately 8 kilometres out of Maryborough.

The house was already deemed unsavable when five tankers from the Bowenvale, Carisbrook, Maryborough, Talbot and Wareek and Bung Bong brigades arrived at the incident.

An Advice — Stay Informed message was issued by VicEmergency to nearby residents until local brigades managed to control the blaze at around 5 pm.

No one was home at the time of the incident and no injuries were sustained.

While acknowledging the effort of nearby residents, Incident Controller Matthew Ipsen said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

“Investigations are still ongoing in relation to the fire, possibly it could have been electrical,” he said.

“[The fire] started to get into the grass leads but private units put that out before any tankers arrived on the scene.

“Thank you to the community members that did help us in that initial attack.”
