Allan Monk named tyre fitter of the year
Allan Monk isn’t just a field fitter, but an award winning field fitter, after taking out the top spot in the state for his work.
At the end of last month Allan Monk from Redpath Tyre and Battery Service found out he was the state winner for Agricultural, Construction and Industrial Tyre Fitter of the Year, supported by Harvest Tyres and Jonair Workshop Equipment.
With over 20 years in the industry, over 12 of which have been with Redpath Tyre and Battery Service, Mr Monk’s first award for his work was a long time coming.
“It was exciting and satisfying all rolled into one,” he said.
Although Mr Monk is often recognised by those he helps out, wherever they find themselves in trouble, he’s found himself humbled by this new scale of appreciation.
“It really drives it home, you know, what people do actually feel about my work,” he said.
As a field fitter he’s changing tyres wherever they are found. From small equipment through to industrial tyres larger than he is tall on machinery that’s 50 to 70 tonnes, all from his white truck.
For owner of Redpath Tyre and Battery Service, Tim Redpath, seeing Mr Monk win the award fills him with pride.
“He’s just one of those guys you send out in the field and he comes back when the job’s finished,” he said.
It’s a feeling reflected in his son, Brendan Redpath, who said the care Mr Monk takes with his work is reflected in the business.
“It’s all good and well to have our businesses’ achievements but when one of the boys creates their own path and achieves in their own right, it’s fulfilling,” he said.
Moving up to the national competition Mr Monk won’t know if he’s taken the top award until March 28. In the meantime he wants to thank those across the community who have shown their support.
“Thanks to my family, friends, the customers, and long term customers that have become friends, just for the support,” he said.
