There’s plenty on the line at Goldfields Reserve tomorrow, with Colts Phelans looking to secure the result they desire to move into the top four and mark their status as a two-day contender.

While the limited overs game seemed to be more of a struggle for Colts, their bowling attack’s line and length seem to be a lot more suited to the two-day game, with the trio of Dayne Baker, Dave Robinson and Nick Henderson cashing in on the first day’s play last weekend.

Henderson had his best outing of the year, taking 4/23 as he rolled through Beaufort’s batting order.

Baker continued what has been a consistent campaign of proving to be hard to score against, conceding just 12 runs from his 10 overs, while taking two wickets of his own.

As a result, Colts are currently in the better shape out of the two teams to win, but Beaufort will be out to take early wickets to give themselves a foothold back into the game.

Two late wickets did the trick for the Crows last week after Colts openers Sebastian Borg and Rhys Wagstaff put on 44 for the first-wicket stand, with Ben Grant and Blake Jantzen striking to remove Borg and Robinson.

Starting day two, Wagstaff will resume on 33, while Luke Tatchell will support him at the other end on four.

Wagstaff has proven difficult for the Crows bowlers to get out this season, having previously scored 108 in their one-day clash, so he looms as the key wicket if Beaufort wish to keep their good run going.

Tatchell, too, has been in good form of late, having scored 90 of his 115 runs for the season in his last two innings at the crease, and with the added confidence, will look for another good score tomorrow.

The Crows will no doubt back in their bowling lineup which has delivered a lot more consistently this season, with Jay English and Lachlan Oddie combining for 26 wickets.

Jantzen, too, has emerged as a wildcard, with his wicket of Robinson now meaning that from just 11.4 overs, he has taken eight wickets at an average of 6.9 this season, which speaks volumes of his economy and nous in securing wickets at the right time.

Grant has continued to improve his craft during the season, and has been trusted by the Crows to help hold up an end. While it’s only yielded three wickets for the season, there’s no doubt his wicket last week could be a boost to his confidence going forward.

However, they’ll need to strike very quickly if they are to protect their slender lead tomorrow.
