Carisbrook will be holding their women’s football season launch next week as anticipation continues to build for the return of the Lady Redbacks to the Ballarat Football League Women’s (BFLW) senior competition.
The Lady Redbacks have been busy preparing for their return, previously appointing Steve Atkinson and Matthew Johns as coaches, while Daniel Petter will provide assistance and recruitment.
The new female-friendly club rooms will also be completed early in the season.
As a result, their season launch will be held next Wednesday, February 22, from 6 to 7 pm, with four AFLW players — Carisbrook local and Collingwood player Lauren Butler, Avoca local and Essendon’s Paige Scott, and Butler’s teammates Jordyn Allen and Joanna Lin taking training and drills during the night, followed by a barbecue.
Carisbrook’s Greg Butler said it was an exciting time for the Lady Redbacks, fielding three teams in the upcoming BFLW season.
“We’ll have three teams this season — under 14s, under 16s and our open-age group,” he said.
“With the new rooms progressing well, they should open early in the season. The facilities will provide much better experiences for women who want to come and play football in Carisbrook.”
Butler urged any women who were contemplating playing football in 2023 to come to Carisbrook’s session on Wednesday night.
“The opportunity to train with AFLW players will be provided, as well as information about the season and memberships. Everyone is welcome to come and watch, some tend to want to watch before they try, to see who’s there before they start training,” he said.
“Anyone who is interested or has thought about playing women’s footy — don’t be scared, come along and have a look at what goes on.
“The four AFLW players will run training, teach some drills and talk to the girls, answering any questions they might have.”
The season launch will be held at Carisbrook Recreation Reserve, off McNeil Street in Carisbrook.
