The Bishop name is a well-known one in Maryborough, and could yet earn another chapter with Addison Bishop-Worn’s pending trip to the United States to represent Australia in baseball.
Werribee-based Bishop-Worn bears close ties to Maryborough thanks to his local roots, and looks set to be a star in the making, if recent events are anything to go by.
Already continuing his strong impression at the Werribee Giants Baseball Club, Bishop-Worn hit the winning run with a run batted in triple in a dramatic final in the recent Australian Youth Championships for Victoria in Blacktown in January, which helped him earn his selection in a 43-strong squad which includes eight other Victorians.
With 2024 not featuring an under 18 World Cup, the team will be in the highest-rated tournaments outside of that competition, which will be attended by the best scouts in Major League Baseball (MLB) and college recruiters, who will also be scouting the best high school players the US has to offer.
Bishop-Worn will be hoping to take his talents to the US to ensure he is in contention to take the next step in his baseball career, which could yield a potential spot in the MLB draft in the near-future.
The squad will be heading to Florida from September to October later this year, where Bishop-Worn will be hoping for more success in what has been a stellar start to his personal 2024 campaign.
