A reserve returns after round six rained off

Round six was called off due to Victoria’s wet weather last weekend, with just two weeks to go for play in 2024 before the Christmas and New Year break.

Match of the round status this week belongs to Talbot and Clunes, who will meet at Talbot Recreation Reserve.

The third-placed Magpies are equal top of the ladder with Maryborough and Colts Phelans, but a win here will make it quite comfortable for the reigning premiers, who would be three games inside the top four as the season moves into the halfway point.

A win for the Yabbies, however, would mean they would be just one game behind the Magpies in third.

This will be the first meeting between the two teams this season, with Talbot forfeiting their round two meeting with the Magpies.

A local derby between Mary-borough and MKM at Princes Park also looks to be fascinating, with the Mill looking to continue their improved form with a scalp, while the Owls will be hoping to maintain top spot on the ladder.

The Mill’s last start victory against Carisbrook means they are currently nine points behind Laanecoorie Dunolly in fourth ahead of a make-or-break month.

Maryborough continue to lead the competition, and will be looking for a second win against the Mill this season, having won by 63 runs in their first meeting at Ron Sinclair Oval in round three.

Beaufort and Colts Phelans meet at Goldfields Reserve, with Colts looking to apply the pressure on Maryborough with a big win, while Beaufort will look to continue being a tricky opponent despite their lowly spot on the ladder.

It will be the first time both teams have met this season, with the Crows proving to be competitive over long passages of their last three games, while Colts have won their last three games.

Rounding out the weekend’s action is Carisbrook and Laane-coorie Dunolly at Carisbrook Recreation Reserve.

Laane have dropped their last two starts to now sit a game behind the top three in fourth, but will be hoping to get a good result against the seventh-placed Brookers to get back on track.

Carisbrook will need to bounce back after their last start loss to MKM, and a win would see them close to within a game of Laane in fourth position.
