A reserve cricket makes its return this week, with a different makeup of the competition compared to last season.

Eight teams will makeup the competition, with Avoca and Laanecoorie Dunolly both pulling out of the competition, meaning each team will play each other twice.

An exciting opening round sees all four finalists from last season play against one another, with Carisbrook playing against Talbot, and Colts Phelans playing Clunes.

Two-time reigning premier Carisbrook will look very different in A reserve this season, with all of their premiership team stepping up to A grade, however, with a steady stream of young talent coming through, they will get the chance to prove themselves at a higher level of cricket.

For Colts, who were runners up last season, they will be hoping to take the next step and break through for the A reserve title, while it’s a similar story for both Clunes and Talbot, who fell in the semi-finals last season.

Maryborough and Beaufort will be looking to start their season off on the right note when they play at Jubilee Oval, with both teams falling out of finals contention.

Natte Yallock will be starting their 50th anniversary season with a home game against MKM, having successfully lobbied to play their 50th year celebration game against Talbot on February 3.
