2026 MCDFNL Netball Round 2 Preview — Campbells Creek vs Talbot
After an extra week of anticipation following a round one bye, Campbells Creek will commence their 2026 campaign against Talbot.
At half time of their round one encounter with Harcourt, the Hawks found themselves in a more competitive match than expected, leading by a narrow six goals.
Enter Elenoa Costello, who powered Talbot’s 37-10 second half with 34 goals after coming off the bench in the second quarter.
Last weekend’s victory headlined how dangerous the Hawks can be, with an abundance of difference makers who can seamlessly play in multiple positions.
Player-coach Eleisha Phelps is just as deadly shooting for goal as Elenoa Costello, only missing two attempts last Saturday for her 24 goals. Jess White can also substitute into the attacking goal circle, scoring nine against the Lions.
With the arrivals of Maddy Williams and Portia Hughes, the Hawks are stacked on the defensive end, with the pair joining Jane Costello and Melissa Scott, who can do a masterful job in multiple defensive positions.
That restocked defensive group will attempt to further familiarise themselves against a Campbells Creek team that has undergone some changes following an encouraging 2025.
The main alteration has come at the head coach position, where Tyler Fratantaro has stepped up into the role.
Fratantaro inherits a team that improved to three wins last season with a core led by club best and fairest Jemma Finning, Taylah Sartori and Mikayla Gellatly in the midcourt, as well as Lizzy Clarke in defence.
