Highview College students learned valuable road safety skills last week as they prepare to take to the roads for the first time.

The school’s year 10 students took part in the VicRoads Road Smart program last Tuesday, which taught them valuable skills to stay safe as they obtain their learner driver permit and get out on the roads.

Road Smart was launched with a pilot program last year and has been in place in schools since January.

Program facilitators travelaround the state to deliver Road Smart to year 10 students in metro and regional areas and facilitator Audrey Bartlett helped Highview students brush up on their skills last week.

“Road Smart is about building the knowledge of young drivers as they get started on their road journey,” she said.

“It’s for pre-learners and early learners looking at hazard perception and talking about the towards zero philosophies and instilling those in young people.”
