Indoor sport gets go ahead as Last Step comes into play

Indoor sport is back for adults along with eased restrictions on sporting facilities as Victoria moved to the Last Step on the roadmap out of COVID from Monday.

The latest COVID restrictions, came into effect as of 11.59 pm Sunday, November 22 and bring good news for those eager to get back to sport and exercise in greater numbers.

Indoor physical recreation and community sport — both contact and non-contact — can now go ahead with caps of 150 patrons and group limits of 20, subject to density limits.

This includes gyms, which have now been able to open for a number of weeks.

Contact and non-contact out- door physical recreation and community sport can be played with a cap of 500 patrons and group sizes limited to 50 people.

The density limit of one person per four square metres also applies.

Indoor pools, including lessons have a cap of 150 people and density limits, but no group limit.

Outdoor pools have a larger cap of 300 patrons, subject to density limits but also have no group size limits.

The change comes just in time as the Maryborough Outdoor Pool is scheduled to open from December 5.

Playcentres can also now accept up to 150 patrons, with density limits.

While non-contact outdoor sports like cricket and bowls were able to get seasons underway from late October, the latest restrictions will pave the way for other local sports to return including basketball, squash and carpet bowls.

Depending on future health advice, it also means pre-season training and matches for the 2021 football/netball season can go ahead.
