The Maryborough Golf Club are offering an opportunity for female golfers — or any women interested in picking up the sport — to improve their skills with expert training.

The Ladies Golf Clinic for beginners sees four sessions which will be held over four Sunday mornings, with the first session to be held on Sunday, April 30.

Further sessions will be held on May 7, May 21 and May 28.

The sessions are open to those over the age of 16. Equipment will be provided, while the cost is $10 per session, which also includes morning tea.

Maryborough Golf Club’s Wendy Carmody urged women to consider golf with these sessions providing a pathway to exercise, as well as getting to know a supportive group of ladies.

“It’s a pathway of getting women involved in golf. It would be great for the club, whose numbers are decreasing, and we need new members to keep the club going,” she said.

“Good benefits include exercise, and it’s also a lifelong sport, where anyone can play all their life. Millie Cassidy, for example, is our youngest member, and she is still a teenager, who enjoys playing with the mature ladies on the course.”

The expert training will be provided by accredited coach Keith Fankhauser, who Carmody says is doing it on his own accord.

“Keith Fankhauser is our accredited coach — he’s put his hand up to do it for nothing,” she said.

Carmody said that the opportunity for women to take in the Maryborough course is an exciting prospect.

“It’s a beautiful course, and we’re lucky to have such a great one in the town,” she said.
