UPDATE: There were 28 new cases of COVID-19 recorded overnight to Tuesday and three lives lost. Regional Victoria's current 14 day rolling average is 1.6, while metro Melbourne's is 32.8.

Victoria has hit its lowest number of new overnight COVID-19 cases in three months as regional Victoria moves closer to being completely free of the virus.

Across the state, just 11 new cases were recorded as of the latest figures on Monday, the lowest since June 16.

The new cases bring the overall number in Victoria to 20,051. Of those cases, 657 are still active.

Two people died from the virus overnight, with the total number of deaths rising to 763.

There were no new cases in regional Victoria which had 23 active cases as of Monday.

All local shires including Central Goldfields, Pyrenees, Mount Alexander, Hepburn and Loddon remain free of active cases.

In his daily update on Monday Premier Daniel Andrews said the low regional numbers are a “credit” to residents.

“Those numbers are low and getting lower, and that’s a credit to everyone in regional Victoria for the mighty job that they’ve done and the seriousness with which they follow the rules,” he said.

So far in Victoria there have been over 2.5 million COVID test results received and Mr Andrews urged anyone with symptoms to get tested.

“It is critically important that we keep the test numbers up as high as they can be,” he said.

“Anybody who has symptoms needs to come forward and get tested, don’t put it off for a day, go and get tested today.

“It’s a massive contribution you can make and it is critical to us having the most complete picture and confidence that we have a sense of where this virus is and the chains of transmissions.”

Symptoms of COVID-19 include sore throat, coughing, shortness of breath and fever.

The Maryborough District Health Service’s Fever Clinic is conducting tests at the Maryborough Hospital.
