Free flu vaccine program extended for Victorians
1 min read

Victorians will be able to access free flu shots during the school holidays, with the State Government extending the vaccination program for an extra 10 days to help combat an “aggressive” flu season.

The flu jab was available for free from GPs and pharmacies for all Victorians throughout June to help protect more people against the winter flu season while the country continues to battle COVID-19.

On Tuesday this week the State Government announced the free jab will continue to be offered until July 10, covering the school holiday period.

Minister for Health Mary-Anne Thomas said getting vaccinated against the flu is important.

“As many Victorians have experienced firsthand already, this is shaping up to be the most aggressive flu season we’ve seen since the start of the pandemic, with thousands of cases being recorded across the state each week,” she said.

“We’ve been heartened by the huge turnout from Victorians so far for the flu shot, but we can do even better — that’s why we’re extending this program so more people can access this free service.

“Getting vaccinated against both COVID-19 and the flu not only keeps the pressure off our hospitals, but also gives you and your loved ones the best protection possible over the winter period.”

Victorians aged six months and over are eligible for a free flu shot.

The vaccine is available locally from GPs or at Priceline or Guardian pharmacies in Maryborough.
