The Central Goldfields Shire Council’s decision to approve a planning application to construct student housing at the Maryborough District Health Service (MDHS) has headed to the state’s civil and administrative tribunal.
The council approved the planning application in May and it is for the use and development of land at 1-3 Nightingale Street and 75 Clarendon Street, Maryborough for student accommodation.
Despite the council’s decision, objectors have taken the decision to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT).
A compulsory conference for the case will be held on September 29 and a hearing is scheduled for March 2021 at VCAT.
The subject site for the project is within the General Residential Zone and the Heritage Overlay and includes the demolishment of an existing dwelling on the site, following advice that it is not a primary heritage place nor would its removal adversely affect the cultural significance of the site.
The application proposes the development of accommodation for 20 students within private rooms which will include access to ensuites or shared bathroom facilities and communal living/ kitchen areas, as well as two accessible bedrooms and bathroom facilities.
