Plans to upgrade Maldon’s historic streetscape have received a huge boost with $4.5 million in government funding announced for the project last month.
The Maldon streetscape project has been in the works for more than four years with concept designs presented for feedback in February this year.
The project is set to rejuvenate the town with the new funding to go towards putting powerlines under- ground, restoring shopfronts and upgrading public spaces such as footpaths, crossovers, bins and seating.
The funding comes from the State Government’s $2.7 billion Building Works package designed to help get people back to work.
Mount Alexander Shire Council mayor Christine Henderson said the funding is a “great achievement”.
“We have been planning and developing this project for more than four years in partnership with a local steering committee made up of community, business and state government representatives, so this funding announcement is a great achievement for many,” she said.
