Council facilities and services begin to reopen

Central Goldfields Shire Council has made a number of changes to its facilities and services as coronavirus restrictions continue to ease in Victoria.

A number of services were modified to reduce face-to-face interactions from March 18 with residents still able to contact services through phone and email.

Current government guidelines still state those who can work from home should continue to do so and in a statement last week council said it will continue to follow those directions.

“In line with the current advice from the State Government, there have been some changes to council services and facilities,” it read.

“All steps have been made to ensure we have the necessary guidelines in place to keep both our staff and community safe. The direction from the State Govern- ment remains that staff must continue to work from home, if possible.”

Some council services will be reopening in limited or altered capacities including the Customer Service Centre which reopens today.

The centre will be open to community members for cashier payments only between 9 am and 4 pm, but will be closed between 12.30 and 1.30 pm for cleaning. A queue system will operate at the entry with only six people permitted in the foyer at a time.

All other departments will remain closed to face-to-face contact but can be contacted via phone or email.

Maternal and Child Health services will also resume its face-to-face consultations from today and can be contacted at 5461-6500 or email

Residents can also check out items from the Maryborough Regional Library which has introduced a click and collect service for all items.

To organise an item contact the library on 5461-1950 or email maryboroughlibrary@cgoldshire.vic.

The council has stated it is working on reopening other facilities like the Visitor Information Centre.

“Council is working on the reopening of the Community Hub, Central Goldfields Art Gallery, Visitor Information Centre and Youth Hub,” it said.

“These facilities will only reopen once we have the necessary guidelines in place so that we can ensure the safety of our community and staff.”
