Majority of MCDFNL clubs decide against training despite green light

The State Government and Victorian football and netball bodies gave training the green light from last week, but only a handful of Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League (MCDFNL) clubs have taken them up on that offer.

While the league’s 14 clubs were all expected to field a senior football and an A grade netball team each this season, of those sides just three football and two netball teams will have trained by the end of the week.

Reigning netball premier, Avoca, is one of those teams and club president Bill Drummond said the club is happy to facilitate all senior netball training currently and will look to include other grades and football in the coming weeks.

“We’ll roll out the protocols this week for our netball training and then over the weekend we’ll consult with the committee on how that goes,” he said on Tuesday.

“We believe with the current restrictions in place and the number of participants across these three teams that this is the best group to commence with and to evaluate our compliance to these restrictions.
