The Maryborough Climate Action Group has held its first meeting with the Central Goldfields Shire Council and declaring a climate emergency, action on reducing carbon emissions, sustainability and the environment were on the agenda.
Forming as a result of January’s Maryborough Climate Action Rally, the action group has attracted a membership of over 10 people and rally organiser Tony Macer said he has been heartened by the number of people who expressed interest in being on the group.
“The group is larger than expected and the diverse range of backgrounds and experience of the members is very impressive,” he said.
The climate action rally saw over 200 people turn out in Maryborough’s CBD to call on all three levels of government to declare a climate emergency.
