Magpies to head into finals on a high after claiming 63-run win over MKM

Clunesʼ Brenton Jones plays a low ball during the sideʼs 63-run win over MKM.

Clunes finished off its home and away season with a bang, defeating MKM by 63 runs in a one-day showing at the Mill.

After a wet wicket ruled out play on day one of the two-day clash, both sides gave everything on day two, hoping to get in shape before finals next week.

Clunes won the toss and headed in with the bat to set the tone and did so with an impressive score of 6/224.

Ash Gunn and Mark Jenkin were up first and partnered for 81 runs before Jenkin (39) was dismissed by Chris Freeman and his replacement, Sam Williams was bowled for no score, also by Freeman.

Shehan Dhanapala (12) and Gunn saw the side into triple figures with a 37-run partnership, before Dhanapala was bowled by MKM’s Tristan Tack.

Mark Allen and Gunn spent almost no time with each other, with Gunn (47) bowled LBW just three runs shy of what would have been his first half century for the season.
