Avoca was left holding its breath at the end of day one on Saturday with Clunes just 30 runs off its pace.
The Magpies have three wickets and plenty of overs to get the job done on day two tomorrow, but the Dogs would’ve been hitting the nets hard this week to set up a bowling plan to keep them at bay.
For Clunes, Brenton Jones (18*) and Fred Penhall (22*) are currently not out and bowlers Ash Gunn and Neville Richards round out the list entered last week.
Jones has made 120 runs this season, with a high score of 34 while Penhall has made 180, strangely with the same high score.
While the pair is nearing their season top scores with the bat, their innings has been paused for an entire week, which could help them power through to claim the win for the Pies.
Avoca flexed its bowling muscles last weekend however and will be eager to get three quick wickets to seal the deal on what would be one hell of a win.
The Dogs have struggled with results this season, claiming just one one-day game and finishing on the bottom of the ladder.
