Locals selected onto Bushrangers sides

Ella Patten and Zali Linton are already creating reputations as star basketballers, playing for Country Victoria teams recently.

They may be young but locals Zali Linton and Ella Patten are familiar faces on the basketball scene and are proving they’re rising stars in the sport.

The 12 year olds play for the Maryborough Blazers under 14 girls squad and recently had the opportunity to put their best foot forward, scoring spots on Country Victoria’s two under 14 Bushrangers sides, taking on separate challenges in Melbourne and Albury last month.

Zali said it was a long process to get onto the Bushrangers teams.

“It’s quite hard to get into. There’s a lot of processes to get there,” she said.

“The best thing about it is having really good coaches, playing with great players and against other teams.”

The pair attended a skills day in Ballarat in March last year where they were some of the top players selected for a 20-week Basketball Training Academy program for the Central Basketball Academy.

From there, they were selected to attend a Basketball Victoria Country Gold Nugget Camp in September which included top players from every regional academy in Victoria.
