Imperials dominate Laane thanks to eight wicket-haul from Barnett

Talbotʼs Daniel Romeo stares lovingly at this edged ball which landed firmly in the gloves of keeper Luke Kemp dismissing another Beaufort batsman.

The Creswick Imperials had an absolute field day at Dunolly on Saturday, shrinking what was meant to be one half of a two-day clash down to a 68-over affair.

After the round before was washed out, A reserve ladder leader, Creswick was biting at the bit for a big showing and it did so with the help of one bowler in particular who amassed a colossal eight-wicket haul.

Laane won the toss and elected to bat first, not aware of what awaited at the other end of the pitch.

Creswick’s Steve Barnett claimed David Billinghurst (2), Colin Watts (0) and Peter Scholes (3) in succession before taking a spell which Tynan Spenceley used to claim his only wicket of the game, sending Patrick Pritchard (13) packing.

Barnett returned with the ball and took with him Darren Hunt (26), Dylin Leist (4), Josh Britten (3), Russell Williams (0) and Alex Lovel (0), ending his day at 8/20.

Trevor Blake popped in at the very end to finish things off with a single ball claiming young Joe Lovel (2) leaving Laane all out for 82.

Creswick overcame this total all too easily with Matt Antonio posting 45 runs, skipper Jason Jones making 37 and Spenceley and David Wright making 16 and 17 respectively, both not out.

Darren Hunt fought hard for Laane in a fruitless battle, taking 3/24 from his eight overs bowled.
