Bealiba secures second place in penultimate round

Avoca Blueʼs Taylor Powers reaches for this high ball during the sideʼs A reserve clash against Talbot at the weekend.

Bealiba cemented a second- place A grade ladder finish in the penultimate round of the Maryborough District Tennis Association’s pennant last Saturday, overpowering rivals Avoca by eight sets to one.

The Bealiba women could do little wrong as they comfortably claimed all three of their sets, commencing with Bethany Fitzpatrick and Ashleigh Ross’s 8-2 dismantling of Caitlin Howell and Gina Beavis.

Their men also were on song early, as Jackson Fitzpatrick and Ashley Ross were able to deny Trevor Field and Heath Beavis 8-6 in the opening set.

Missing one of their power players in Nathan Field, the Avoca mens still put up a spirited showing, taking one set 8-2 through the efforts of Trevor and fill-in Ron Potter.
