Barefoot bowlers set to raise funds for charity

The golf clubʼs Jackson Barby and regular Brian Dawson are encouraging members of the community to have a crack for a good cause.

Teams of experienced and novice bowlers alike will be hitting the green for a good cause in coming weeks, battling it out to secure donations for a charity of their choice.

The Maryborough Golf and Bowls Club’s Barefoot Bowls Charity Challenge is making its much anticipated return next Tuesday and promises a social, entertaining and enjoyable competition, all for a good cause.

Running for a number of years, barefoot bowls coordinator Jackson Barby said the competition has grown in popularity and is always a lot of fun.

“We’ll get out here, crank up the music and have a bit of fun. It’s a very social competition and for a lot of people this is the first time they’ve played bowls so they’re learning as they go and that’s what it’s all about,” he said.

The Barefoot Bowls Charity Challenge kicks off next Tuesday, February 18 and will conclude with the final on March 17.

Each team requires at least four people, but can have more than that and matches start at 5.30 pm with a barbecue dinner each Tuesday.

The cost is $5 per player per night of the competition, which goes directly into the prize pool and for further information or to enter the competition, contact the Mary- borough Golf Club on 5460-4900.
