Towns set to host Australia Day events

Central Goldfields Shire chief administrator Noel Harvey, Melody Steed and daughter Lucy, are encouraging people to come along to Australia Day events taking place across the shire, including at Station Domain, where medallions to all babies born in 2019 will be presented.

Residents are invited to attend Central Goldfields Shire’s official Australia Day celebrations on Sunday, January 26.

Maryborough’s event will begin with a free breakfast and children’s activities from 8.30 am with official proceedings to follow at 9.15 am at Station Domain.

As part of the event, the Central Goldfields Shire Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Award of the Year will be named and 13 new Australian citizens will be welcomed.

The celebrations will feature entertainment from the recently formed Maryborough choir, Serendipity Singers.

Central Goldfields Shire chief administrator Noel Harvey said it was a wonderful opportunity for the Central Goldfields Shire community to come together to celebrate.

“Join us as we welcome 13 new Australian Citizens and announce our Australia Day Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Award of the Year awards,” he said.

“We’ll also be presenting medallions to all babies born in the shire during 2019 and children starting kindergarten in 2020 will be presented with a book.”
