The Maryborough District Cricket Association’s youngest cricketers fought hard during Bendigo Country Week and that hard work was rewarded with a win during their final last Friday.
Maryborough came away with two from four wins during the week-long competition, winning over Grenville on day two and also in the final on day four.
The day one match against Gisborne White was a tough slog at Jubilee Oval, with Maryborough bowled out for 97 and overtaken by 21 runs in Gisborne’s reply.
Joe Lovel batted well for the home side, making 41 not out while Hugo Stevens and Jasper Trickey impressed with the ball in hand taking 2/6 and 2/22 respectively.
Tom Grant (1/4), Ben Grant (1/3) and Sam Thomson (1/6) also took wickets on day one for Maryborough.
Day two saw Maryborough’s first win of the competition with Grenville bowled out for 104, influenced heavily by a massive five- wicket haul from Thomson (5/4).
Oliver Cassidy (1/6), Harrison Kurzke (1/7) and Stevens (1/1) also took wickets to help the cause.
Riley Govan (31), Sam Rumpff (24*) and Kuzke (29) contributed well in the reply, adding substantially to a winning score of 3/153.
