Hundreds share in community Christmas lunches

Maryborough Toyotaʼs Christmas lunch is being hailed a success, with around 90 people attending the catered event at GELC.

While Christmas is done and dusted for another year, almost 300 community members were treated to special Christmas lunches by community groups they won’t soon forget.

Both the Carisbrook Lions Club’s Christmas With Us event and Maryborough Toyota’s jointly hosted lunch with the Goldfields Employment & Learning Centre (GELC) and Bendigo Bank are being hailed as successes.

The Maryborough Harness Racing Complex was filled on Christmas Day, with the Carisbrook Lions Club hosting its most successful Christmas With Us event to date.

Carisbrook Lions Club president Jefferson Hoober said last year’s event was so successful there had to be a last minute venue change to cater for more people.

“We did have to move to the Maryborough Harness Racing Complex last minute because so many people were coming, in the end we catered for about 180 people which was great and we had around 35 volunteers on top of that,” he said.

“The lunch has grown and grown, each year we have more people involved which is fantastic and everyone goes home happy, it’s a huge success.”

Acting general manager at Maryborough Toyota, Stewart Forbes, said he’s “very happy” with how their lunch went, also seeing bigger crowds attend.

“We’re very happy with how the day went, it was very well received by the local community and the event received a record amount of donations from individuals and local businesses,” he said.
